LOIS Some people are just born with good card sense. (holds out deck) So how many? (X) Just then, the fireplace sputters. Clark casually turns toward it and hits the log with a blast of HEAT VISION, sending the fire roaring again. He turns back to the game, concentration on his face. LOIS (CONT'D) Come on. He stares at his hand, then at the deck. (X) CLARK I'll... take three. (X) He discards three cards, she cockily deals him three more, discards, takes one. (X) LOIS One for me. The front door of the bank is ajar and the ALARM is BLARING. A MAN stands in the shadows in the next doorway. He has a metallic Halburton briefcase in his hands. 3 NIGHT SKY OVER METROPOLIS 3 SUPERMAN hovers for a moment, then swoops downward. 4 ANGLE ON THE MAN 4 as he hears Superman approaching. He opens the lid to the case, and it emits a red glow. 5 CLOSE ON THE LEAD LINED INTERIOR OF THE CASE 5 to see a chunk of glowing red rock which the faithfuls will recognize as RED KRYPTONITE. 6 BACK TO SCENE 6 Superman prepares to land in front of the store. However, he can't control his speed, and instead of landing on the sidewalk, his momentum carries him CRASHING through the pavement, burrowing deep into the ground, gone from sight. The man quickly closes the case and dashes down the street, disappearing into the night. A moment later, Superman climbs out of the hole. I flew to the bank and when I tried to come in for a landing, I couldn't stop. LOIS Couldn't stop what? SUPERMAN Myself. The next thing I knew, I'd burrowed fifty feet under the (X) pavement. (X) Lois reacts, standing up and crossing over to him. LOIS (concerned) My god. Are you alright? SUPERMAN (nods) It was like I momentarily lost control of my powers. Funny thing was, no one actually robbed the (X) bank. The door was jimmied just enough to set off the alarm. (X) LOIS How do you feel now? A moment later, the meat is reduced to an ashen rock. (X) LOIS Clark! Clark puts his hands over his eyes, but the HEAT VISION shoots out the sides. To his left, a canister of popcorn (X) heats and immediately begins to pop, while to his right, (X) various fruit in a bowl STEAMS, the bowl SHATTERS. 25 LIVING ROOM 25 Jerry and Perry look toward the kitchen, where they hear various EXPLOSIONS and see a stream of smoke pouring out.
